UC Berkeley Pre-College Scholars — Residential Track

Live on campus and experience independent academic study through two university courses.

UC Berkeley’s residential Pre-College Scholars combines regular summer university courses, academic support and campus living. Students take two eligible lower-division courses, with assignments, assessment and class discussion; course choices require program review.

University / venue relationship

A university-operated academic and residential summer program.

Credit / certificate

An official UC Berkeley transcript can be requested; students with passing grades may receive a commendation letter from the Dean of Extended Education.

Courses & activities

Two university subject courses

Choose eligible courses numbered 1–99 to explore a possible major or a new subject.

Reading, assignments and assessment

Complete college-level work and assessment within the selected courses and receive course grades.

Study skills and tutoring

Use learning-center support such as math, science and statistics study groups or writing tutoring.

College exploration workshops

Explore college choices and university learning through workshops that support educational planning.

Camp features & life

Study alongside university students

Join regular Berkeley summer classes, subject to space, eligibility and prerequisites.

Supervised residential living

Live in assigned housing with program staff and resident mentors; the current curfew is 10 p.m.–6 a.m.

Formal academic record

University credit and a transcript document the study; transfer is determined by the receiving institution.

Normally requires a B/3.0 overall average. International students need qualifying English proficiency and appropriate student status. Residential participants must use assigned program housing.

Travel & participation

Courses must be in person; current full-time requirements are at least 6 units for 8 weeks or 5 units for 6 weeks. Contact an advisor for 2027 enrollment and English evidence requirements.

Housing includes meals and supervision. Students must hold valid health insurance; the program’s emergency plan does not replace comprehensive personal coverage.

Cancellation must be submitted through the admissions portal. Fees are nonrefundable after the annual cancellation deadline, including when a preferred class is unavailable. Contact an advisor for 2027 deadlines.

Complete required health and vaccination documentation and manage medication safely. Finalize admission, enrollment and visa documentation before arranging international travel.
