Stanford Summer Session is the university’s summer quarter. High-school participants study with university and visiting students across computing, engineering, sciences, humanities and communication, selecting eligible courses and completing formal assignments and assessment.

Stanford University Summer Session
Stanford’s university-operated summer-quarter visiting-student program.
Course credit is recorded on an official Stanford transcript; contact an advisor about any completion certificate.
Explore programming and problem decomposition within computing; confirm 2027 courses and high-school eligibility with an advisor.
Explore areas such as AI, computational mathematics and probability, choosing courses with suitable prerequisites.
The Summer Session public-speaking course is open to enrolled summer students and develops audience-facing communication.
Use coursework, assessments and academic support to practice independent study planning and help-seeking.
Courses are regular Stanford academic offerings carrying credit, with varying availability and prerequisites.
An extended session allows a full cycle of classes, revision and assessment with university-level workload.
Live on campus or commute from within 50 miles while staying with a qualifying adult local contact.
Must be 16 by June 19, 2027 and no older than 19 on August 15, 2027; no age exceptions. International students must verify English proficiency, and applicants cannot be incoming Stanford freshmen.

Students requiring a Stanford I-20 must maintain full-time enrollment. Current residential/I-20 students need at least 8 units, 7 academic; confirm 2027 requirements with an advisor.
Commuters must provide a trusted friend or family contact aged over 18 within 50 miles of campus; the program verifies arrangements.
After admission, students and parents complete required forms, health and insurance steps. Program and I-20 processing fees are nonrefundable; tuition and housing follow their respective refund terms.
Confirm English testing/waivers, prerequisites, international travel requirements and final costs before committing to enrollment or travel.
