CAMP-CA-025

UC Santa Cruz Scholar Immersion Program
A university research-immersion program mentored by UCSC-affiliated researchers.
SIP does not award high-school or college credit; contact an advisor about completion documentation.
Read professional literature and primary sources to connect a question with existing knowledge.
Learn laboratory methods, scientific computing or other techniques appropriate to the assigned project.
Contribute to design, data recording and interpretation, revising hypotheses or methods when needed.
Practice written and oral communication and present research to peers, mentors and families.
Join a mentor’s active work, where the research may change direction or fail to support the initial hypothesis.
Mentors are usually graduate students or postdocs, with some faculty; students must communicate proactively and manage their time.
Fields span arts, engineering, humanities, natural and social sciences; the program assigns final projects through matching.
International eligibility depends on nationality, current visa status and travel restrictions and must be checked individually. Students graduating before the summer are generally ineligible.
2027 fees, additional charges and cancellation terms: contact an advisor.
The 2027 application fee is US$68 and nonrefundable; contact an advisor for program, housing and other charges.
Students must apply directly through the UCSC SIP portal. The program prohibits third parties from charging additional application or placement fees on its behalf.
Do not lobby prospective mentors before application or admission; attempts to bypass matching can disqualify an applicant.
Nonlocal students can request seven-day housing or stay with a local guardian. Weekday-only housing does not cover weekends, so complete care arrangements are needed.
TOEFL is not required, but fluent research communication in English is essential. Mentor permission is needed before submitting research to competitions.
Discuss this camp and participation arrangements with an ASCWORLD education adviser.
