Turn bridges, electronic devices and chemical processes into testable engineering designs.
Explore Engineering Innovation is Johns Hopkins’ engineering course for high-school students. This entry focuses on the four-week, in-person Homewood option, using experiments, design, analysis and technical communication to explore several engineering fields.
CAMP-MD-001

Johns Hopkins University Whiting School of Engineering, Engineering Innovation
The university’s own engineering course, presented here for in-person study at Homewood
Three JHU credits are available under course requirements; official transcripts are issued by the JHU Registrar
Test material behavior, analyze truss forces, then build and load-test a spaghetti bridge.
Use a Circuit Playground Express to build an interactive memory game and practice input, output and debugging.
Convert cornstarch into fermentable sugars and estimate conversion efficiency.
Explain design decisions through product proposals, documentation and presentations.
Apply professional ethical principles to engineering scenarios and support arguments with evidence.
Explore civil, chemical, electrical, computer and mechanical engineering, plus materials science.
Students can earn three JHU credits under course requirements; the university records grades and receiving institutions decide transfer credit.
The four-week in-person format offers residential or commuter participation.
Math and science grades should generally be As or Bs. Algebra II, trigonometry and a full year of laboratory chemistry or physics are required. Residential students must be at least 15 at move-in and remain under 18 through the program.
Contact an advisor for 2027 tuition, housing and meals, insurance and cancellation rules; budget separately for international travel and visa costs.
International students in the four-week in-person Homewood program may follow JHU’s F-1 sponsorship process or hold another eligible study status.
B-1/B-2 status or the Visa Waiver Program cannot be used for this credit course; hybrid, online and other-campus rules differ.
Approved language or standardized test scores are required when English-medium schooling criteria are not met; ask about the applicable standard.
In-person participants need health insurance from a U.S.-based insurer and a suitable computer with a USB port.
Discuss this camp and participation arrangements with an ASCWORLD education adviser.
