University / venue relationship

Run by Brown University, with learning and residential life on its campus.

Credit / certificate

Noncredit program; Brown Pre-College digital completion certificate, plus a performance report for qualifying courses of two weeks or more.

Courses & activities

Social issue analysis

Select a course addressing themes such as civic participation, gender equity, educational access or intercultural communication.

Leadership styles

Examine personal leadership habits and how identity and social context affect group interaction.

Listening, speaking and collaboration

Practice active listening, public speaking and teamwork through peer discussion and problem-solving.

Action Plan

Develop a proposal to pursue a meaningful change at school or in the community, with goals and practical steps.

Camp features & life

Focused study

On-campus study typically includes five class hours and two to three hours of homework daily.

Documented learning

Successful completion brings a Brown Pre-College digital completion certificate; courses of two weeks or more also receive a performance report.

Residential community

Live with Leadership Institute peers in Brown residence halls and use university dining and study resources.

Travel & participation

International applicants are welcome; non-native English speakers must provide the required English-proficiency evidence.

Residential staff support campus life. Students follow check-in and curfew rules; parents generally cannot enter residence halls during the session.

Complete consent, health and immunization forms before travel; arrange immigration documents, transport and any pre/post-program lodging in advance.

Application materials must be the student’s original work; ghostwriting or plagiarism can lead to denial.
