Rice ELITE Tech Camp — Houston

Turn curiosity about AI, robotics and coding into practical engineering work.

Rice ELITE Tech’s curriculum is created by Rice engineering faculty and the Rice Center for Engineering Leadership. Rice student instructors lead day-to-day teaching, with Envision by WorldStrides supporting registration. Students normally choose morning and afternoon technical tracks and join engineering-leadership activities.

Program organizer & learning outcomes

Organizer

Rice University RCEL and engineering course teams, with enrollment services through Envision by WorldStrides

University / venue relationship

Rice-designed curriculum on the Rice campus, taught day to day primarily by Rice student instructors

Credit / certificate

Both residential and commuter tracks list a completion certificate; contact an advisor about the issuing body.

Courses & activities

Robotic motion and sensing

Robotics tracks explore actuation, control and sensors for devices that respond to their surroundings.

AI for smart cities

The deep-learning track uses infrastructure images to explore damage recognition and classification.

Thermal modeling with Python

Use Python to model temperature changes and compare predictions with experimental observations.

C++ and spaceflight computation

The related track combines C++ and fluid-mechanics ideas to examine rocket-design parameters.

Engineering leadership

Practice communication, project management and teamwork around technical designs.

Camp features & life

Two technical tracks

Select separate morning and afternoon tracks, subject to that session’s course schedule.

Student instructors and course designers

Rice engineering students provide daily instruction, with courses designed by faculty, doctoral students and engineering professionals.

Projects and feedback

Multi-day work develops code, models or engineering designs that students discuss and refine.

Who might enjoy this camp?

  • High-school students interested in applied AI, robotics or coding
  • Students who enjoy collaborative hands-on work and debugging
  • Students seeking a Rice campus experience and interaction with student instructors

Most tracks do not require prior coding; the C++ spaceflight track is better suited to students with physics preparation. International eligibility, English and entry requirements need individual confirmation before travel is booked.
