Camp Mont Shenandoah

A girls’ residential camp built around daily river swimming, making and team traditions, with optional small-group riding.

Camp Mont Shenandoah combines rustic cabins beside the Cowpasture River with camper-selected activities in its three- and six-week sessions. Roots & Shoots introduces ages 7–13 to a range of activities. Although the camp does not identify as a religious camp, Wednesday Vespers and Sunday gatherings emphasize character, drawing loosely on Judeo-Christian and Woodcraft traditions.

Courses & activities

River swimming and canoeing

Daily swimming is required, with ability groups in regular sessions. Canoeing starts at age 12; Roots & Shoots emphasizes recreational swimming.

Small-group English riding

Optional, extra-cost hunt-seat lessons combine riding with handling, horse care and stable responsibilities; ring groups have no more than five riders.

Drama and production

Drama games, dance and music build expression. Six-week campers may audition for the musical; three-week campers can help with sets, props and costumes.

Beehive crafts and nature study

Beehive projects include drawing, tie-dye and pottery. Outdoor classes explore stream life, plants and animals, alongside age-appropriate hikes and camping.
