Experience school life through literacy, mathematics, creative expression and peer support.
School introduction
Founded in 1964, SBCS provides regular education from transitional kindergarten through Grade 8. A caring, friendly and secure environment supports academic foundations as well as confidence, responsibility and positive relationships.
Buddy activities, student leadership and shared traditions strengthen a sense of belonging. Older students can contribute through student organizations, yearbook, team leadership and peer support. Cultural days, talent shows, arts and sports add opportunities for growth beyond lessons.
Curriculum
Regular subjects include mathematics, reading, language arts, history, science, PE and art. TK–4 mathematics uses GO Math!, while Grades 5–8 use Big Ideas. Reading and mathematics also incorporate individual progress and practice tools, with ongoing assessment informing instruction.
Science includes weekly lessons, a biennial science fair and upper-grade outdoor science camps. All grades have music and art, with skits, talent shows and productions offering opportunities for expression. PE develops physical skills and teamwork.
Middle-school students can explore student government, yearbook and team roles. After-school choices may include art, STEM, music, chess and sports; programmes vary by semester and some carry extra fees. Contact an advisor about short-term timetables, enrichment and trips.
