School introduction

Founded in 1867 in Cornwall-on-Hudson, New York, the school serves Grades 8–12 and postgraduate students in its regular boarding and day program. Its mountain setting gives the campus a distinctive natural environment and opportunities to connect learning with field observation and outdoor exploration.

A small school community emphasizes knowing students individually. Small classes combine academic challenge with personal attention, developing communication, collaboration, creativity and critical thinking. Teachers match challenge to prior preparation, helping knowledge and confidence develop together.

Curriculum

Core study includes English, mathematics, science, history and social sciences, and world languages, with advanced and AP options. Science emphasizes investigation: students observe, measure, test explanations and present their reasoning. Grade 8 introduces Earth-science fields, while high-school study extends into physics, chemistry, biology and environmental science.

Computing connects digital information, networks, application design and programming. Students with suitable preparation can pursue more advanced options, including AP computer science. Scientific work also develops experimental design and data analysis. English-language learning and academic-support programs complement the regular curriculum and its range of learning needs.

Learning Beyond the Classroom

Arts span drawing, printmaking, sculpture, music, dance, theater, fashion and filmmaking. Students develop ideas through practice toward finished work or performance. Stagecraft connects scenery, lighting and props with the work of performers.

Athletics and after-school activities include basketball, soccer, volleyball, tennis, cross country, fencing and outdoor adventure. Teams, different competitive levels and interest-based activities develop cooperation, discipline and responsibility.

Boarding life extends the campus experience beyond lessons. Weekend offerings include cultural visits, city outings and shared activities, creating opportunities to build friendships and broaden perspectives. Courses and activities depend on term, grade and participation requirements.
