School introduction

SCS began in 1969 with 18 pupils and three teachers, developing over time into elementary, junior-high and other school programmes. It emphasizes familiar, supportive relationships and growth in academics, character, social skills and well-being.

Campus resources include an art studio, music room, STEM lab, library and sports spaces. Teachers and families help children discover their interests through performances, outdoor learning and service. In Grades 7–8, particular attention is given to independence and responsibility toward others.

Curriculum

The K–6 elementary programme devotes a substantial part of each day to reading, writing and mathematics, alongside science, social studies, art and PE. English includes phonics, grammar, spelling, literature, handwriting and composition, with reading feedback helping teachers track comprehension.

Grades 7–8 study English, literature, history, mathematics, science and PE. The STEM lab uses real-world problems to drive practical learning. Past electives have included robotics, cybersecurity, cooking, photography, guitar, art and yearbook; offerings rotate.

Grade-level productions connect classroom content with presentation skills. Outdoor education has included Grade 7 marine science, Grade 8 backpacking and trips linked to US history. These are regular or previously offered programmes; contact an advisor about classes, electives and trips available during a short stay.

  • Bible is a regular core subject, with chapel and daily scripture reading and prayer in school life. Full-year Grade 7–8 students also complete community service; contact an advisor about requirements that apply to a short stay.
