School introduction

Located in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan, this school shares a 319-acre educational campus. A science institute, art museum, trails and gardens extend classroom learning through observation, exploration and engagement with the arts.

Its educational tradition values design, experimentation and improvement, encouraging curiosity, resilience and collaboration. The Upper School combines day and boarding life with advising and college-preparatory study that help students develop independence.

Curriculum

Upper School study spans English, mathematics, science, history, world languages, arts, and religion and philosophy. Literature and analytical writing sit alongside options such as American literature, creative nonfiction and world history; placement depends on grade, preparation and scheduling.

Laboratory science and computing offer routes into advanced work. Scientific research develops questions, experimental methods, data analysis and presentation skills; mathematics can extend to multivariable calculus, while computing includes Java programming.

Studio-based arts include weaving and fiber arts, metalsmithing, dance and choral music. These are regular-school examples. Contact an advisor about prerequisites and individual course access.

  • The regular Upper School curriculum includes religion and philosophy requirements: ninth graders study world religions, and seniors complete a departmental elective. Contact an advisor about transfer requirements.
