School introduction

Located in Edison, New Jersey, this school traces its roots to institutions founded in 1882 and 1884, which merged as a coeducational school in 1976. It spans early childhood through high school, emphasizing inquiry, individual growth and a diverse community.

Upper School learning is supported by ongoing discussion and close faculty relationships. Students engage with complex questions and develop interests through arts, athletics and leadership, while global connections and cultural understanding shape the school’s approach.

Curriculum

The regular Upper School program includes English, mathematics, science, history, world languages, visual and performing arts, and health and physical education, with honors and AP options. English emphasizes close reading, analytical writing and discussion, while critical thinking extends across subjects.

The entrepreneurship and technology pathway develops creative problem-solving, logical reasoning, business understanding and technical skills through sequential courses. Global Scholars focuses on international issues and global responsibility; students normally elect it after ninth grade and fulfill its requirements for a diploma endorsement.

Performing arts include band, choir, plays and musicals, alongside visual arts, service learning and student creative work. Endorsement programs have separate completion requirements. Contact an advisor about suitability for new entrants and individual course choices.

  • International students must meet the required English standard; the school does not offer a regular ESL program.
  • Standard requirements for new international students include a six-week summer SEED program. Contact an advisor about how this applies to January entry.
