WA School

Beaver Dam, Wisconsin

A boarding-school community connecting liberal arts with engineering, media and environmental exploration.

Students building a structural model together

School introduction

Founded in 1855 in Beaver Dam, Wisconsin, this coeducational school serves day and boarding students in grades 9–12. Its approximately 55-acre campus brings classroom, residential, arts and athletic life together.

A liberal-arts foundation connects intellectual development with character. Teachers also serve as mentors, coaches or residential staff, helping students build self-management; personal learning plans support students with different starting points.

Curriculum

Courses are offered at college-preparatory, honors and AP levels across English, history and social studies, mathematics, science, modern languages and arts. Humanities may be co-taught by English and history faculty, while languages include German and Spanish. Advanced placement depends on school assessment.

STEAM emphasizes moving from ideas to working designs. Examples include CAD and 3D printing, woodworking, creative engineering, soldering, and building and testing bridges, applying mathematics, science and art to practical problems.

Media studies explores photography, digital design, podcasting, filmmaking and media literacy. Environmental science combines classroom study with fieldwork in nearby natural settings. Contact an advisor about semester compatibility and individual schedules.

  • The whole school gathers for non-denominational Friday chapel, including personal faith, ethics or morality and a mindful moment.
  • Regular student life includes athletics or physical education and required evening study hall. Contact an advisor about individual arrangements.
