LPHSG School

Honolulu, Hawaii

A girls’ campus where academic exploration, creative work and independent expression connect.

Campus setting

School introduction

Founded in 1964, LPHSG is an independent school for girls. It moved to its present campus in 1969 and subsequently added science and athletic facilities while updating classrooms within a historic villa setting. Courtyards, arcades and landscaped grounds give the campus a distinctive character.

The school aims to help young women develop purpose, confidence and independent judgment. Its small community emphasizes close teacher–student relationships, with older–younger student partnerships, leadership activities and service providing opportunities to speak up, take responsibility and support others.

Curriculum

Middle school emphasizes exploration. English develops reading, discussion, writing-workshop and presentation skills, while science incorporates laboratory work and collaborative inquiry. Arts, theatre, technology and physical education help students discover interests across disciplines.

The upper-school program includes literature, mathematics, physics, chemistry, biology, history, world languages, and visual and performing arts, alongside women’s and gender studies. Older students plan an independent project around a personal interest, work with a mentor and present their results to the school community.

TechZone combines hands-on ideas with digital fabrication. Coding, robotics, CAD, laser cutting and 3D printing introduce an iterative process of designing, testing and refining solutions. These describe regular school resources; contact an advisor about the classes, equipment and projects available during a short stay.
