MS School
Honolulu, Hawaii
Connecting literacy foundations, project exploration and cultural learning across school life.
School introduction
MS opened in 1927, added high-school classes in 1931 and graduated its first senior class in 1935. Separate grade-school and high-school campuses now support a continuous path from early learning to preparation for further study.
The school gives academic and personal growth equal weight, encouraging self-discipline, collaboration, creativity and contribution to the community. Service, intercultural understanding and active exploration are part of school life, while older–younger student partnerships help younger children feel connected.
Curriculum
Kindergarten builds phonics, reading, writing, storytelling and communication alongside mathematics, science, art, music, physical education and library learning. The regular program has an English-instruction pathway and a Mandarin-immersion pathway using both languages for core learning.
Grades 1–5 add independent tasks and project planning, including Project Lead The Way STEM. A grade-3 model-society activity introduces entrepreneurship, grade 4 explores music and dance, and grade 5 begins one-to-one laptop learning and a team-building camp experience.
Grades 6–8 develop advanced reading, writing and multimedia presentation, with high-school algebra available to suitably prepared eighth graders. Band, visual arts, creative media, theatre, Hawaiian and Filipino culture options complement weekly advisory. High school adds advanced study and dual-credit pathways; contact an advisor about short-stay teaching pathways, schedules and project access.
- Religious instruction is part of the regular curriculum; middle-level learning also includes prayer, Old and New Testament study and religious activities. Contact an advisor about the arrangements for short-term students.
