SPLS School
Orange, California
A connected learning journey from foundational literacy to middle-school subjects, with science, the arts and increasing independence.
School introduction
SPLS School traces its educational history to 1908 and moved to an expanded campus in 1985. Its Orange campus now connects early learning, elementary education and middle school. Alongside academic foundations, the school develops independence, responsibility and collaboration, with students taking on greater ownership of their work and school life as they grow.
Music, choir, theater, sports and service give students several ways to participate beyond their main lessons. Student support and school counseling are also part of the regular school provision. The school places importance on cooperation between families and teachers and on helping children feel that they belong.
Curriculum
The younger grades build foundations in reading, writing, mathematics, science and social studies through practical learning. Grades 1–2 develop increasing independence and classroom responsibility; Grades 3–5 place more emphasis on applying knowledge, collaboration and organization. Art, music, library, physical education and technology enrich this work. Regular grade-level experiences include California history and government in Grade 4 and outdoor science education in Grade 5.
Grades 6–8 move into departmental teaching, helping students manage different teachers, greater academic demands and more independent study. Science laboratories, projects and exploratory electives sit alongside core learning. Published elective examples include podcasting, dance, theater and classroom assistance. Grade 6 explores ancient civilizations, Grade 7 has hands-on science experiences, and Grade 8 connects history and government with an educational trip.
These are regular school offerings and grade-level activities. Electives and trips can change with staffing, scheduling and the school year. Contact an advisor about the classes, activities and additional conditions available during a short-term stay.
- The regular school day includes daily Bible instruction and prayer, with weekly chapel. Contact an advisor about participation requirements for short-term students.
