School introduction

BTA opened in 2002 and moved to its present five-acre campus in 2006. Beginning with grades 6–9, it developed into a full secondary school with a challenging college-preparatory education for students from varied backgrounds.

Its learning culture values close reading, thoughtful questions, discussion and independent judgment. Teachers also support students through advising relationships. Performance, sport and learning in the city’s communities connect academic work with the wider world.

Curriculum

Grades 6–8 build grammar, essay-writing and public-speaking skills. History moves through the ancient world, Boston, and U.S. government and history; science includes life, chemistry and environmental themes. Mathematics is placed by readiness, with Latin or appropriate English-language support in grades 7–8.

Grade 9 Humanities connects English, history and Biblical Studies alongside biology, mathematics, world languages and art. Grade 10 continues humanities, world history and chemistry. Older students progress to AP and other advanced courses and develop independent research and argument through a senior symposium project.

Horizons offerings for grades 7–8 have included robotics, ceramics, journalism and podcasting, Model UN and outdoor environmental study, with options changing annually. Boston Day takes students into the city to study its history, ecology, arts and communities. Contact an advisor about short-stay timetables, language support and time-specific projects.

  • Biblical Studies forms part of the regular curriculum, and school life includes chapel with worship, prayer and religious teaching. Contact an advisor about participation arrangements for short-term students.
