ASLS School

Lake Forest, California

Phonics, STEAM and practical electives support active learning in varied classrooms.

School introduction

ASLS connects core learning with communication, collaboration and independent thinking, recognizing that children learn in different ways. Teachers use varied, age-appropriate approaches, with an emphasis on partnership between school and family.

A student support center and enrichment provision complement the regular classroom. Music, sport and age-appropriate service offer further ways to participate, with practical projects such as preparing community supplies and improving the campus encouraging responsibility and teamwork.

Curriculum

Early learning uses phonics and vocabulary to establish reading, then connects it with spelling, grammar, composition and handwriting. Mathematics develops fluency, conceptual understanding and problem-solving; science covers Earth, physical and life topics. Qualified older pupils can move into higher-level mathematics.

Technology instruction includes digital citizenship, coding, word processing and internet skills, with classroom tablets in younger grades and Chromebooks for older students. The regular TK–8 program lists Spanish twice weekly, alongside music, art and physical education.

STEAM enrichment develops individual and collaborative inquiry, communication and creative problem-solving. Junior-high electives include robotics, photography, coding, cooking and archery. Contact an advisor about short-stay placement, electives, learning support and activities.

  • The school states that all classes have morning devotions and Christian instruction, and school life includes chapel. Contact an advisor about the specific participation requirements for short-term students.
